We are collaborating! A very bookish afternoon—an invitation by PADERBORN2READ x FRAG

Only two more weeks to go and there are exciting news to share about our very bookish afternoon: PADERBORN2READ—The English Book Club organizes the very bookish afternoon filled with book-related activities as a contribution to Paderborn University’s Reading Week and has now joined hands with FRAG, the student committee representing Paderborn University’s students of Romanic Studies, English and American Studies, and Germanic Studies. We are looking forward to this collaboration that will certainly be a win-win!

Book Exhibition & Book Grab (3.006.00 p.m.)

Throughout the afternoon there is an open exhibition of members’ book favourites and other reading recommendations as well as a rummage table where second-hand books can be taken and swapped. We offer inspiration, fun browsing and snacks!

DIY Workshop: Craft your own bookmark! (3.004.30 p.m.)

For everyone who loves reading printed books but keeps forgetting which page they were on, club member Kristin offers a DIY workshop where you can hand-craft your own bookmark. You can participate at any time during the 90-minute timeframe and contrary to what we announced earlier, no contributions towards expenses will be asked from the participants—all costs of craft materials will be covered by a generous sponsering by FRAG. Many thanks to you, @fragschaft!

Book Slam: Present your favourite book! (4.306.00 p.m.)

For everyone who wants to show their book favourites to others and for everyone who would like even more reading inspiration, club member Ronja organizes a book slam, in which each participant has a maximum of three minutes to present and push (one of) their favourite book(s). Every book is allowed and may be presented in German or English. Registration for the slam is possible on site for up to 20 participants, there will be a small prize for the most intriguing presentation.

Book Discussion: Time Travel Past and Present (6.008.00 p.m.)

The very bookish afternoon will seamlessly transition into a regular PADERBORN2READ book discussion. Under the theme “Time Travel Past and Present” we discuss Looking Backward, 2000–1887 by Edward Bellamy and This is How You Lose the Time War by Amal El-Mohtar and Max Gladstone. Bellamy’s 1888 novel features a protagonist time travelling to a socialist version of the United States in the year 2000. El-Mohtar and Gladstone’s 2019 novel has a duo of lesbian space agents time travelling back and forth through multiple universes on behalf of their warring empires.

We invite all book lovers and readers to join us for single activities or for the whole very bookish afternoon!
