While setting up our new book club website and closing the formerly used Facebook group in the process, we happened upon some interesting snippets of book club history. This in one we thought worth sharing.
One particular discussion session had us fired up like few others: our Christmas session on The Diary of a Bookseller by Shaun Bythell. The whole group enjoyed this autobiographical, whimsical documentation of life at a book store, its peculiar customers, and dramatic moments. The Diary led to us talking about our own experiences shopping, organizing, and—of course—reading books and the discussion stretched into the evening with book club members sharing “shelfies” of their inspiring book shelves, stacks, and heaps. In the end, it was decided to let the author know about his book’s impact on our group and we wrote up a letter that was sent to The Bookshop at Wigtown.
