Our reading list for winter term 2024/2025 has been completed and promises spooky and weird, heart-breaking and heart-warming stories.
November 24, 2024—post-Halloween special: Cursed Bread by Sophie Mackintosh
If you eat the bread, you’ll die, he said. The statement made no sense, but it filled me with an electric dread.

Extravaganza!
Our Christmas session is completed by an extravaganza that is making its third appearance: the Secret Santa Book Swap! This is how it works if you want to participate:
- Select a book that you have read and want somebody else to enjoy, too. It must be originally written in English. But it can be from any author, genre, and time period.
- Wrap your book in paper and write a little teaser on the wrapping. Do not give away the title or author, just give the potential receiver a little hint at what sort of book it is and why it’s interesting.
- We will figure out who takes which parcel during our December session and enjoy the surprise unwrappings.

March 13, 2025: City of Bones by Martha Wells
Charisat is a city at the Fringe of the Waste, a rocky and treacherous area of desolation formed more than a thousand years ago when a mysterious holocaust drained the sea and destroyed the flourishing civilization of the Ancients. It is a city which survives by trade, and its most valuable merchandise is relics, artifacts from the remains of the Ancient city that once occupied Charisat’s present location. Khat, a member of a humanoid race created by the Ancients to survive in the Waste, and Sagai, his human partner, are relic dealers working on the edge of society, trying to stay one step ahead of the Trade Inspectors and to support Sagai’s family. When Khat is hired to find relics believed to be part of one of the Ancients’ arcane engines, they are both reluctant to become involved.
