This year, PADERBORN2READ—The English Book Club celebrates the twelve days of Christmas with twelve curated reading recommendations for the festive season and cozy winter days.
The second day of Christmas, with two turtle doves—and their four wings (dove-dragon joke intended):
Fourth Wing by Rebecca Yarros

Fourth Wing is one of the most talked about Romantasy books of the last few years. When I read it at the beginning of 2024 I almost felt like I was late to the party and honestly mostly reading it because I was lovingly pressured to read it by a friend. What can I say? I’m now not only part of the party but ready to organise the next one (maybe a release party for part three?)—this book (and its sequel) easily was one of my top three reads of 2024 and no other Romantasy book that I read after that even came close to it (except for—you guessed it—part two of the series, Iron Flame).
I don’t think that you need to know much about this book other than that it’s romance, fantasy, epic, amazingly written and deals with dragons. I’d describe it as a mix of Divergent and Hunger Games (as many have) but more adult and also not just a copy of previous series. Sounds like your cup of tea? Get onto the ride (quite literally) because it is a wild and emotional one. I can’t wait to celebrate Onyx Storm in January (yes, a sprayed edges version is already on preorder) and would highly recommend that you give Fourth Wing at least a chance in 2025.
